MISSION OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

With many families looking for budget-friendly activities in these economic times, Mission San Juan Capistrano is more popular than ever. Kids can have fun experiencing culture and history in many ways – from audio tours, to educational tour booklets, fun exhibits and historical re-enactments.
Parents will enjoy their visit equally while getting a snapshot of California’s history by visiting our museum exhibits in both our museum rooms and throughout our 10-acre grounds. Most of our ongoing events and exhibits are included in the price of admission.

CASA ROMANTICA, SAN CLEMENTE

OCEAN INSTITUTE, DANA POINT

The Ocean Institute has become nationally known for its hands-on marine science, environmental education and maritime history programs. More than 110,000 K-12 students and 8,000 teachers annually participate in the Institute’s 61 award-winning, immersion style programs. To learn about oceanography, science, and California history, students voyage onto the ocean, study in labs and live aboard tall ships or in the chaparral, where they can feel and taste the salty sea spray, sort through live specimens, observe migrating whales, collect scientific data and investigate the culture and world around them.

BOWERS MUSEUM, SANTA ANA

Bowers Museum is a world-class, internationally-celebrated institution of art and culture dedicated to the preservation, study and exhibition of fine arts from around the world. Bowers has organized some of the most culturally significant exhibits in history, including Secret World of Forbidden City, The Dead Sea Scrolls and its current exhibit Mummies: Death and the Afterlife in Ancient Egypt. Museum Hours: Tuesday – Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

DISCOVERY SCIENCE CENTER, SANTA ANA

Imaginations twist and fly through more than 100 hands-on exhibits at Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana. Exhibits include Virtual Volleyball, a Bed of Nails, a Shake Shack and Dino Quest – the World’s First Interactive Dinosaur Adventure! Making the Grade fieldtrips offer science activities and group challenges for a new grade level each month. Hours: Daily 10am-5pm.
